Have about 3700 words on the Doyle/McCourt paper. A few hundred more to churn out tonight. Go me!! I might actually become a literary critic at this stage. Need to start thinking seriously about my PhD proposal. I know roughly what I wanna do but I need to discuss it with teachers so that it becomes flesh. Maybe I shall head off to Australia. Had a dream yesterday afternoon that I met the devil in the form of a young man and boy, was he scary. Some weird things happened and I had to fight back; I saw myself praying desperately for God's help and then, I discovered that the devil had done something to do the boy. Like, he was holding the boy hostage/prisoner in a place where I couldn't see or reach him. So then I had to gather my courage and embark on this journey to find and rescue him, like a damsel rushing to a knight in distress. My friend Natasha felt that it was a symbolic dream. And now that I think about it, certain aspects of it do resonate in real life. The boy is cheerful and friendly enough, doing everyday things, but sometimes I reckon that he's doing his own thing, lost in his own world, which is a place where I can't reach him fully. I suppose in a sense, the dream means I should try to get through to him. in a manner of speaking, my kiss could wake him up :). I could actually turn this nightmare into a dark fairy tale. Adventures of Stumpy, the pigeon
I fed Stumpy, the one-footed pigeon, on the ferry this afternoon. He already looked pretty well fed for a pigeon that cannot fly far and so takes the ferry across the harbour. However, I decided to aid him in pigeon diabetes by giving him some high-carb bread and a peanut butter bar. Both of which he ate with relish. He even managed to get some peanut butter stuck in his mandibles. This led to many humourous attempts at removal. None successful. Current Mood: excited |

love equation
There's this nifty program on Windows 7 that converts drawn math equations into neat typed equations. After about 5 minutes, I made this:

everybody's doing it so why shouldn't I?
Watched Quest for Camelot and half of The Black Cauldron on youtube yesterday. Fun. Also the paper is coming along disgustingly. So since some people on my flist have been making a list of books read in 2009, I thought I thought I might give it a shot...I will only count complete books since there were some that I started for my course but never finished them...Also, most of these books I "listened" to. Writing a paper on Frank McCourt, Roddy Doyle and American cultural imperialism in Ireland. About 1400 words done today, 4000 more to go. What a way to spend the new year. Had a lovely dream in the wee hours that I married the boy and we were honeymooning in a nice hotel in a sunny place. And there were cookies and this nice old English lady who was amused to see us two young lovebirds... He was dressed in black and I was wearing pink...like, a pink burqa and berry lipstick...I dreamt that I wanted something (I think we hadn't consummated our marriage yet ;)) and he didn't know what I wanted. And when he finally understood, he was like "oh, ok." Haha, a patient gentleman he is. A lovely way to start the new year :). Current Mood: cheerful |

another year gone by...
Watched Alice today on youtube. It was very interesting, a modern re-telling of the classic with some fantasy and sci-fi elements. Then I studied...mostly fussed about but studied and wished that I had chosen a different topic for my Irish paper (like the Scottish gothic) but it's too late for that now so I have to do what I can. Note to other academics: never select a piece of literature that several others have written on; instead, choose a recently published book so that you will have more freedom. I can't believe that 2009 is almost an end. A good year it was, and eventful, too. Lots of things happened. My older sister became a mother (she is expecting again, God willing), I had several discontments with my ex, and I finally managed to get out of Bangladesh (the best part). I learnt how to do research and cook Chinese food. Met a cool guy who wasn't for me. Made new friends :). Outside my window, I can hear people and music, the excitement. Naturally I don't have any plans for new year's eve but a part of me wishes that I could've hung out with my friends... It's so weird to watch year after year just pass by...makes you think of life in a more philosophical way. Here's to hoping for a better new year in 2010 :). May it be our year. The year's passing....
So the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Nine is drawing to a close. And I've gotten an awesome job, and lost it. I went to the UK and discovered that politeness and respect towards others still exists, and I've gotten to keep my union healthcare another year. Oh yeah, and I got engaged. Sweet. Next year...what is going on? Well, for starters, myrddan and I are going to Disneyland next week and then taking a trans-continental train ride back. It will be an experience. Mainly because the laptop will be taken with us, and photos and things will be uploaded regularly, instead of being posted hap-hazardly on our return. Also, the wedding is next year, as well as the honeymoon. More on that as the year progresses. And there's this thing which we may or may not partake of. The price is right, but the dates are during the highlight of our work, so we're not sure yet if we are going. What else? Oh yeah. Despite the fact I had a momentary weakness to join Twitter, I have suppressed the urge and am staying here. YAY!! I feel no reason to reach out to social network sites where people I haven't heard from 'friend' me and then do not talk to me or email me. I'm not hard to find people! I'm quite searchable. :P Staying away from unnessecary drama has been my biggest priority, and will continue to be so. It cuts down on stress and other things. Current Mood: blah |

I don't celebrate Christmas but I wish you all happy holidays (because the academic semester has ended for some students). It hasn't snowed for the last 3 days, I think, but the roads are a little slippery and I slipped on the pavement the day before yesterday on my way home from the library :(. Thank God I wasn't that hurt. Missing the boy. You'd think the out-of-mind out-of-sight thing would work but nooo. I have to count the days until the next semester begins. Further complications with a man I once wanted to marry make me even more irritated but it oughtn't be my concern. He has made his bed now let him lie in it. I know it's weird but sometimes I'm kind amazed at how quickly the term ended! It feels like only yesterday that I arrived in England and enrolled at the university, only yesterday that we had our first class, only yesterday our reading week, and so much else... Time sure flies by when you're having fun and before you know it, the whole MA is finished. That is something I'm actually not looking forward to... Current Mood: bored |
